Reported Rangers target Joseph Okumu has admitted to Fotbollskanalen he “definitely” wants to leave Elfsborg for another European club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
And where better than Ibrox for a talented, ball-playing 23-year-old centre-half?
Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara and more have made huge strides at the newly crowned Scottish Premiership champions, with manager Steven Gerrard proving himself to be a master when it comes to turning potential into top-level talent.
And Okumu, who was linked with the Glasgow giants by Aftonbladet in March, feels like a typical Rangers signing – young, affordable and blessed with substantial resale value.
The Kenyan has little more than a year left on his contract at Elfsborg and admits he’s keen to take the next step after making a name for himself in Swedish football.
“This (the Swedish league) is a springboard for all players. If you do it well, hopefully the right opportunity arises,” says the 6ft 4in Okumu.
“If the right option emerges, I definitely want to take the next step.

“It depends on the project. It’s not just about going to a top league or a top team. It’s all about where I can go and develop, where my playing style fits and where I can make an impression.
“I’m not just moving to move. It is important to see the bigger picture.
“It’s the dream all players have.”
Okumu, who has been likened to Virgil van Dijk by an Elfsborg teammate, would surely have no problems fitting in at a Rangers side boasting the best defensive record in British football.
Then again, Aftonbladet reported Okumu has been identified as a possible replacement for Filip Helander at Ibrox.
If Helander is staying put after all, is there any real need for a new centre-half?
