Anouar El Mhassani could be about to leave West Ham United when his contract expires this summer, telling Voetbalzone that a return to Holland is an option for a former Ajax starlet.

During his formative years in Amsterdam, a Dutch-Moroccan winger shared a dressing room with the likes of Sergino Dest and Ryan Gravenberch.

But while the right-back and the so-called second coming of Paul Pogba have forced their way into the first-team picture at Ajax, the former earning interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich due to his swashbuckling displays, El Mhassani has had to be patient at the London Stadium.

The 19-year-old has not come close to a Premier League debut during his three years in the English capital.

And while a whole host of West Ham youngsters were offered professional terms last month, including Bernardo Rosa, Daniel Jinadu and Will Greenidge, El Mhassani was not among them.

“I’m currently open to all options,” says a teenager who is due to become a free agent on July 1.

“A return to the Netherlands is definitely an option.”

El Mhassani has been inundated with requests from Besiktas fans in recent weeks but, speaking about a potential move to Istanbul, he makes it clear that there has not been any official approach yet from the Turkish giants.

Whatever happens, a player who rejected Chelsea and Stoke to sign for West Ham will surely have a new club when 2020/21 kicks off.
