New Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is said to want to add a powerful centre-half to his Ibrox ranks and players from Norwich City and Cardiff City could come into his thinking.
According to the Daily Record, new Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha wants enforcers in defence and midfield as part of up to 12 new signings at Ibrox.
HITC Sport have hand-picked three from the former category he could pick up for nothing this summer, from clubs including Norwich City and Cardiff City:
Rashid Sumaila (Qadsia)
Linked with Rangers almost immediately after Caixinha’s appointment in March, the six-foot Ghana international would certainly tick the ‘enforcer’ box. Sumaila was signed by the Portuguese at Al-Gharafa this season, but sees his contract at parent club Qadsia expire next month. He seems keen, continuing to ‘like’ Rangers’ fans tweets regarding a potential move, but a lack of international caps could hinder his chances of securing a work permit.
Bruno Ecuele Manga (Cardiff City)
Cardiff are said to have paid £5.4 million for the Gabon international shortly after their relegation three years ago, although Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock appears resigned to losing him for nothing this summer. Six-foot-one Manga has been offered a reduced-terms deal to stay in Wales, but several top European sides are being tipped to pounce. Rangers would therefore face a battle to land him, but it perhaps wouldn’t hurt to throw a hat in the ring.
Sebastien Bassong (Norwich City)
Rangers have been linked with several Norwich players already, so it would be little surprise if Bassong was next. The six-foot-two Cameroonian has already had his release confirmed by the Canaries, having made only nine league appearances all season. He may be the wrong side of 30 now, although Caixinha could do worse than to consider a player who’s cost around £12 million in combined transfer fees.
