Glasgow Rangers hero Barry Ferguson has been linked with an Ibrox return, and Scott Linton has backed his old boss for the role.
Barry Ferguson
Clyde utility man Scott Linton has suggested that Rangers would probably be foolish not to hand Barry Ferguson a coaching role as part of Pedro Caixinha’s backroom team, the Evening Times reports.
Ferguson is one of the former Gers players that has been linked with a return to Ibrox as the Portuguese continues to put his coaching staff together.
The 39-year-old is currently unattached having recently left his role as manager of Scottish League Two side Clyde. And Linton – who played under Ferguson for the club – has outlined the kind of mentality he instilled into the team, and suggested that Rangers would be wrong not to target him.
“The first thing that struck me about Barry when I started playing under him at Clyde was his sheer will to win. I always used to tell anyone who asked me what he was like was that it was just outrageous how much he wanted to win, to win anything,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“When he was standing there in the dressing room before a game he was more up for the match than some of the players were. His desire and his passion were incredible.”
“He knows what is required to succeed at Rangers having been there as a player before. I think they will be bringing in the right man if they do go for him. He knows the club inside out. They could do a lot worse than bring in Barry Ferguson,” he would later add.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha
Ferguson was a hugely successful player during his time as a player with the Light Blues, winning 15 major trophies with the club, many as captain.
And with Linton insisting that that desire to win has not diminished at all following his move into the dugout, it would surely make a lot of sense for Caixinha to consider bringing him in, as the players will surely be left in no doubt about what it would take for the side to reach expectations at Ibrox if they had Ferguson working with them daily.
