Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport’s YouTube Channel, Luke Ayling has opened up on why he felt sad at the end of last season.

The right-back had a season to remember as he was a key player in Leeds United’s promotion charge, but the Whites’ title win was something of a bittersweet event for Ayling.

Indeed, the right-back says that the absence of fans made him upset in the wake of United’s historic campaign.

“Honestly, the noise is something else. Like obviously we were all so happy to be promoted and it was unreal, but deep down inside you’re just so upset that fans weren’t there and we didn’t get the chance to do the bus tour and just stuff like that,” Ayling said.

“The fans here, they live and breathe it it’s just a crazy city for their football and I’m lucky enough to play for it.”

Ayling is right, it’s a massive shame that fans coudn’t be there.

16 years Leeds fans remained loyal to a club that was going through season after season of hardship, and when they finally got their crowning moment, they weren’t allowed in the ground to see it.

Of course, there were a select number of fans that did end up celebrating outside of Elland Road, and Leeds did put on a miniature open top bus parade when they were presented with the trophy, but it’s nothing like the scale of celebration we would have seen during any other season.

Hopefully, it won’t be long until Leeds get a proper day in the sun celebrating a bit of silverware.
