Troy Deeney told talkSPORT (02/11/20 at 6:30 am) that Tottenham won’t win the Premier League title this season because they ‘cannot rely’ on players such as Gareth Bale to stay fit.

Spurs are currently sitting third in the table after Bale himself came off the bench over the weekend and helped his side seal all three points against Brighton – and his late winner was probably the fans favourite moment of the season so far given how popular he is with them.

The Wales international, 31, is yet to start a league game because he is being eased in fitness-wise, but he has been a starter for the European matches.

Added with Bale’s potential fitness issues, and their defence, it has seen Deeney dismiss their chances of winning the title this season.

“Can they [win the title]? Yes they can,” said Deeney. “Will they? I am probably going to stick to no. I just think over the course of the season, and I think the midweek [game against Antwerp] showed it, that if they were to get an injury to a Kane or Son. Have they got somebody to step up to score the goals?

“Yes [they have Bale] but Bale has had his injuries. So, you cannot rely on him. I don’t mean that in a negative way.

“Can you sit there and say he is going to be fit all year round? That’s why he’s not starting at the minute. They are easing him back in. He hasn’t had a proper pre-season in a little while.

“I think ultimately they will always concede goals as well. They will always concede chances. So, I think they might just fall short. But I would say the top four.”

Some will feel that normal service has resumed with Liverpool going back to the top of the table over the weekend, but they can be easily dethroned.

Given the crazy nature of how this league is and how a couple of poor/positive results can see you flying up and crashing down, it seems as though anything can happen and will happen this term.

From all the possibilities of something different happening this season, it has raised the question as to whether Jose Mourinho could do the unthinkable in North London.
