Troy Deeney told talkSPORT Breakfast that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford ‘never thought’ he was going to ‘score this many goals’ in the Premier League.

The £10 million Leeds hitman [BBC Sport] has nine goals to his name in the Premier League – level with England captain Harry Kane.

There were question marks over whether Bamford was the man to lead Leeds United’s line upon their return to the promised land, but he was keen to prove those critics wrong and that man on the bucket never lost faith in him.

Deeney shared his thoughts on Bamford, as well as praising the Stuart Dallas and the performances he’s putting in for the club.

“Patrick Bamford would never have thought he was going to score this many goals. He may have had this in his head ‘Oh, I am going to score 20’.

“But realistically, he would have thought ‘if I can get into double figures then I would be happy’. He’s flying. The team is flying. They have got wingers as fullbacks. It’s great to watch.

“Dallas is playing unbelievably well. Great goal [against Manchester United]. Can you imagine when that place is rocking? And you have got Elland Road, 30 odd thousand, every time they go forward they are screaming. That is going to be some team and environment to play against.”

At the rate Bamford is going, he should score 15+ goals and perhaps even hit the 20 mark, which would be some going.

The pressure of not having to win near-one every game has seemingly helped his cause because that used to be the case in the Championship.

Whilst England’s bench strength is pretty strong when it comes to the attacking department, it still shouldn’t rule out the possibility of Bamford being called up by his country before the delayed Euro’s next summer.
