The Celtic defender was the subject of a lot of speculation during the summer.
Dedryck Boyata has suggested to The Record that it was hard to accept Celtic blocking his summer departure, but insists that he’s over it now.
Boyata’s profile soared during the summer after an excellent campaign with Belgium at the World Cup in Russia, helping them finish third.
Consequently, Celtic were inundated with enquiries about the 27-year-old, who was the subject of a £9 million bid by Fulham.
The Hoops knocked back their Premier League counterparts, before Boyata failed to travel to Greece for a key Champions League qualifier with AEK Athens.
Celtic fans unfurled an anti-Boyata banner in the next game, which read ‘Boyata – not fit to wear the jersey’ and the former Manchester City youth admits that it was a difficult time.
“That was hard. I will not deny that,” he told The Record.
“But everything is going well again today. I play every game. We will see what the future will bring. I do not try to think too much about that.”
Boyata, who earns £14,000 per week in Glasgow [Daily Star], is still contracted to Celtic until next summer, so it remains to be seen if Brendan Rodgers cashes in on the big centre-back in January or not.
That would be the logical move, because Boyata no doubt still has interested parties. Rodgers might not get £9 million, but he will still fetch a pretty tidy sum and selling up this winter makes sense, providing a replacement can be signed.
