Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata is reportedly wanted by Sevilla and Lazio in the summer transfer window.
Dedryck Boyata’s current situation at Celtic has become complicated, and doubts are increasing on whether the defender will be at the club beyond the summer transfer window.
According to The Scottish Sun, Boyata has not travelled with the rest of the Celtic squad to Greece for their Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens.
This comes after the former Manchester City defender’s agent made it clear that the centre-back will not sign a new contract with the Hoops, with his current deal to run out at the end of the season.
Jacques Lichtenstein has claimed that Boyata will not risk himself amid report that he had a back injury and illness.
The Belgian’s agent has also stated that the defender will sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.
Lichtenstein told The Daily Record: “It’s difficult, it’s impossible for this kind of pain to go away in less than a month.
“Entering the last 10 months of his contract, everyone understands he cannot put his career at risk by playing at 95 per cent, which a footballer does when covered by two or three years of contract.
“On January 1 Dedryck will sign elsewhere by being free without reporting anything to Celtic.”
According to The Daily Record, Spanish club Sevilla and Italian outfit Lazio are interested in signing Boyata in the summer transfer window.
If the defender is pretty much set to leave next summer on a free transfer, then it would make sense for the Hoops to cash in on him now and then sign a suitable replacement.
After all, from Lichtenstein’s comments, it seems that Boyata may not risk himself on the pitch. Would Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers be able to rely on the 27-year-old this season?
