Izaguirre re-signed for Celtic this summer after leaving in 2017.
Emilio Izaguirre re-signed for Celtic this summer after leaving Brendan Rodgers’ side before the start of the 2017-18 season, and Dedryck Boyata has posted a hilarious message on Instagram about the Honduran.
The 32-year-old left-back was offloaded by Celtic last summer and ended up turning out for Saudi Arabian side Al-Feiha where he clocked up 28 appearances throughout the 2017-18 campaign.
But his contract finished at the end of the season and with Rodgers in need of back-up for Kieran Tierney, he decided to re-sign Izaguirre and allow youngster Calvin Miller to go on loan to relegation-threatened Dundee.
Boyata praised the decision to sign the 97-time Honduras international on Instagram with a comedic post that saw him training alongside the defender and Olivier Ntcham, captioning: “What would we do without Emilio?”
Izaguirre has won six Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic since joining the club in the summer of 2010, all six of which came in The Hoops’ run of seven consecutive titles. In that time, he has played 252 times.
He has returned to make three appearances this season, and will be looking to help Celtic make it eight in a row with his seventh Premiership triumph.
It remains to be seen what Rodgers’ long-term plans are regarding Izaguirre, after he was given only a one-year deal. He joins the likes of Boyata, James Forrest, Scott Brown and more in the final 12 months of their contract.
