Brendan Rodgers and then Neil Lennon helped Celtic to yet another Scottish Premiership title this season.
Dedryck Boyata has admitted that it’s ‘always difficult’ to say goodbye as he prepares to leave Celtic at the end of the season.
As reported by BBC Sport, Boyata, whose contract at Parkhead expires at the end of the month, will join German side Hertha Berlin for the following campaign.
Before the Belgian leaves, he’ll want to cheer on his teammates as they push for the treble-treble when they take on Hearts at the weekend.
Speaking to Sky Sports Football (19/05/2019), during Celtic’s title celebrations over the weekend, Boyata shared some interesting thoughts on his departure.
On his farewell: “It’s very difficult,” Boyata told Sky Sports Football. “I spent four great years here and it’s always difficult to say goodbye. We win the league, so it is a happy day for everybody. I am trying to enjoy it as much as I can.
How tough it was to leave & potentially leaving earlier: “I am finding myself in a position where I am being the bad guy. If people only knew the truth. That’d be different.”
The Bhoys have dominated Scottish football during the past few seasons and centre-back Boyata has played a big part in that success.
Injuries have resulted in him playing fewer games this term, but he’s still played 32 games in all competitions for the Glasgow giants [transfermarkt].
During his time at Celtic, Boyata earned £14,000-a-week [Daily Star], as he will now prepare for a new life in Germany and hoping to take his career to the next level.
