It’s safe to say that centre-back duo Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic won’t be receiving many Christmas cards from Celtic fans after what happened yesterday.

Celtic surrendered their 69-match unbeaten run in Scotland with a shock 4-0 defeat away to Hearts on Sunday afternoon.

Boyata looked second best in the aerial battle with Kyle Lafferty all day, while Simunovic’s defending for the Jambos’ third of the game through Manuel Milinkovic was dreadful.

Consequence of the defeat, Celtic are only five points ahead of second-placed Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, albeit with a game in hand, and the Hoops’ centre-back woes have been evident for much of the season after Brendan Rodgers failed to sign competition for the pair.

Together, Boyata and Simunovic played huge roles in helping Rodgers’s side to an Invincible domestic treble last season, but fans of the Parkhead club are convinced that the duo have no long-term future as a pairing after Sunday’s mauling.
