Tottenham Hotspur picked up a huge win on Sunday night, beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park in a much-needed victory.
Spurs were embarrassed with a 3-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night, crashing out of the Europa League in truly unexpected circumstances.
Jose Mourinho needed a win, and he got it as Carlos Vinicius opened the scoring before Harry Kane made it 2-0 from the penalty spot.
Mourinho will be delighted with the three points, and especially with the performance of Lucas Moura.
The Brazilian has arguably been Tottenham’s best player in recent weeks, turning in superb performances primarily as a number 10.
Moura racked up four key passes, one tackle, two accurate crosses, one interception, four clearances, five successful dribbles and two aerial duels won.
Oh, and he grabbed an assist too, showing outstanding approach play with Harry Kane before teeing up Vinicius to score from close range.
Jamie Redknapp hailed Moura last night, telling Sky Sports that he loves his ‘dedication and attitude’, adding that he was selfless in the build-up to Vinicius’s goal.
“What has shaped the game so far has been one piece of quality from Lucas Moura,” said Redknapp. “He’s been in good form of late and I like his dedication and attitude. Vinicius deserves his goal for chasing a bit of a lost cause at the start.”
“It’s a brilliant piece of selfless play as he doesn’t try the speculative shot but instead builds up the pitch through stages, uses Harry Kane, and plays it so well. It’s a lovely piece of play,” he added.
