West Ham United pulled off a superb comeback on Saturday afternoon, beating Leeds United 2-1 at Elland Road – a result Declan Rice loved.
The Hammers fell behind in the first half as Raphinha rattled a low drive past Lukasz Fabianski and into the net.
West Ham grew into the game though and landed an equaliser as Junior Firpo diverted Jarrod Bowen’s effort into his own net.
As Leeds pushed players forward late on, West Ham hit them on the counter. Rice found Michail Antonio, who slotted past Illan Meslier to complete the comeback.
West Ham bounce back from Manchester United disappointment in style
David Moyes’ men would have been forgiven for feeling a little down after last week’s late disappointment against Manchester United.
They have ultimately hit back brilliantly. They beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Carabao Cup and then came from behind to beat Leeds.
For anybody questioning West Ham’s resolve, they have bounced back from a major low to claim two big results.
David Moyes and his players should be proud of themselves.
Declan Rice reacts on Twitter
West Ham players were naturally buzzing at the final whistle having picked up a big win, and Rice was delighted.
The midfielder has made a great start to the season, and his ball into Antonio for Saturday’s winner was a fine assist.
Rice took to Twitter after the win over Leeds to celebrate with just six words – ‘can’t beat a last minute winner’.
