Sonny Perkins has been in incredible form for the club’s Under-21 side since joining Leeds from West Ham in the summer – and the versatile attacker has earned praise from Declan Rice on Instagram, after scoring on Tuesday night.

Still only 18, Perkins made the somewhat surprising move to join Leeds from West Ham in the summer, on a free. It comes after breaking into the senior Hammers side on three occasions last season. He felt Leeds was a better move.

Since his move to Elland Road, London-born Perkins has been in supreme form. From the wing, the England Under-19 star has scored a whopping eight goals in seven games for the Leeds 21’s. He got his eighth on Tuesday night.

In the EFL Trophy against Tranmere, Perkins scored one of five. Joe Gelhardt got a brace, while Cody Drameh and Mateo Joseph also netted. Perkins took to Instagram after the match, underlining his delight at the win and goal.

Leeds attacker Perkins has earned praise from West Ham star Rice

Not only has Perkins been on fire in Leeds colours, but he has also scored a huge five goals in three Under-19 England outings this season. The attacker is in stunning form – whether it is from the left, right or as a striker, as a no.9.

Leeds have a number of options in the final third – and his path is somewhat blocked. Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Willy Gnonto and Joe Gelhardt are all above Perkins in the pecking order. But he is younger at 18. A debut is likely this term.

Clearly, he has left a lasting impression on his Leeds 21’s teammates – as well as West Ham skipper Rice. However, posing for one of the photos he posted on Instagram, Perkins was teased by his old Hammers teammate.
