Declan Rice should be annoyed with West Ham’s Samir Nasri plans

Declan Rice’s West Ham United future remains uncertain, but Manuel Pellegrini is looking to make a new signing at the London Stadium.

January may be around six weeks away, but West Ham are reportedly closing in on a new signing with the London Evening Standard suggesting that Samir Nasri is undergoing a medical ahead of signing a short-term deal at the London Stadium.

The London Evening Standard reports that Nasri is likely to pen an initial six-month deal worth £80,000-a-week with a view to earning a longer deal with Manuel Pellegrini’s men.

Nasri’s doping ban comes to an end in December so he will come into contention to play during the second-half of the season. It could prove to be an inspired deal for the Irons, but one member of the squad would be forgiven for feeling slightly annoyed if the move goes through.

Declan Rice continues to face an uncertain future with the club. He has less than two years left on his contract worth £3,000-a-week and talks over fresh terms are yet to lead to an agreement.

The Daily Express reported in September that Rice is looking for a six-year deal that sees his salary jump to £30,000-a-week for the first three years before increasing by £5,000-a-week.

It is a significant jump from his current deal. But it is not one that he has not earned with his performances this season. He is quickly establishing himself as a key player – and is hardly asking West Ham to break the bank on his new deal.

Meanwhile, when he sees the club offering Nasri more than double what he is asking for, he must have questions.

Of course, Nasri is a much more established player and could end up leaving at the end of the season unless he is a success. But he has not played a competitive game in almost a year and is set to sign an incredibly lucrative deal.

West Ham would arguably be wise therefore, to make sure that they follow up a deal for Nasri by swiftly looking to make sure that Rice’s future is also addressed as their starlet could now be forgiven for having concerns.
