West Ham United won 2-1 against Southampton yesterday, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side in excellent form.

Declan Rice has told Sky Sports, after their coverage of West Ham United’s match with Southampton, that Manuel Pellegrini was encouraging to his side at half-time yesterday.

West Ham went into the break drawing 0-0 with Southampton, after missing some presentable opportunities.

Lucas Perez was guilty of fluffing his lines from close range, but Pellegrini did not want to discourage his team.

Instead, Pellegrini insisted that West Ham kept on pushing for a goal, as chances would come their way.

Pellegrini’s plan came under threat, as Southampton took the lead in the second half.

But West Ham turned things around when Felipe Anderson scored a brace to provide them with the three points.

Rice said: “We come in before half-time and the manager said ‘just keep going, you’re going to get a chance’ and then Felipe Anderson has popped up with two goals.”

West Ham have now won five of their last six matches, with Pellegrini’s side in wonderful form.

The Hammers have moved up to ninth in the Premier League table, with their next outing coming against Burnley in two days’ time.
