West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice told Jesse Lingard ‘so happy for you’ on Instagram following Manchester United’s 4-1 win against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon.
The one-time West Ham loanee came off the bench to join the Cristiano Ronaldo party and do what he did best at the London Stadium – put the ball into the back of the net.
West Ham fans will, no doubt, be in agreement with Rice because it’s his hard work at their club that has helped him be in this situation now.
This was the message Lingard posted on his Instagram after Man United’s win against Newcastle, with Rice posting in the comments section ‘so happy for you’.
This time last season, Lingard’s career at Old Trafford looked well and truly down the drain.
But that six-month loan spell, playing alongside Rice and working under David Moyes, brought out his energetic goal talents once more.
Of course, it could have been a lot different for Lingard if he opted to return to West Ham on a permeant basis.
But, given that he has seemingly been offered regular game time, then that dream from the Hammers faithful was brought to an end.
And whilst Lingard may not be ripping it up for those in Claret and Blue anymore, at least he is now earning those minutes at Old Trafford.
If that drops then there’s no doubt that those in the East London boardroom will come knocking for his talents again.
