Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has received a supportive message from Declan Rice after his display against Brentford.

The Gunners had to call on Ramsdale to start against Brentford on Saturday.

First-choice stopper David Raya was ineligible to play against his parent club and Mikel Arteta had to turn to Ramsdale.

This has been a difficult season for the England international, going from first-choice goalkeeper last season to sitting on the bench this term.

Ramsdale then dropped a clanger against Brentford, taking too long on a clearance as he smashed the ball against Yoane Wissa and into the net.

That brought Brentford level at 1-1 but Ramsdale was somewhat bailed out late on as Kai Havertz headed home the winner for Arsenal.

Ramsdale did have a couple of moments to redeem himself in the second half.

Ivan Toney spotted Ramsdale off his line and launched a long-range shot towards goal.

Ramsdale managed to dash back and claw the ball over the bar, saving Arsenal from going a goal down.

It was a similar story later in the second half as Nathan Collins found himself free inside the Arsenal box.

Ramsdale tipped Collins’ header over the bar, again denying the Bees with a crucial save.

Ramsdale will have felt truly awful after that first-half mistake but he has the support of his teammates – including Declan Rice.

Rice has taken to Instagram to send a message to Ramsdale, stating ‘kept us in it brother we stick together’, showing his appreciation to the Arsenal stopper.

Ramsdale had praised the ‘amazing’ Arsenal fans and teammates for the support they give him even in the darkest moments.

Ian Wright and Gabriel Martinelli also showed their support to Ramsdale, who will be relieved to have seen Arsenal grab all three points.
