Speaking on The Overlap, Declan Rice has been speaking about his style of play and the fact that he’s something of an old-school footballer.
Gary Neville was full of praise for Rice on his show, stating that he believes he could have been a Premier League star in any era.
Rice agreed, stating that he’d loved to have played 20 years ago, while Neville joked that he’d have probably have received fewer yellow cards back then.
The midfielder agreed with Neville, stating that he’s actually quite disappointed with the number of bookings he’s picked up lately.
What’s Rice said?
The midfielder spoke to Neville about his style of play.
“I always want to do well and start quickly, when I play in the Premier League the game has evolved so much, but if I could have played 20 years ago I would have loved that as well 100 per cent,” Rice said.
“You would have gotten less yellow cards wouldn’t you?” Neville joked.
“I am picking up more and more yellows recently, I’m a bit disappointed in that though, I need to slow down or else I’ll get suspended,” Rice replied.

Shouldn’t change
Rice has picked up a lot of yellow cards this season – six in total, and while that is something the midfielder wants to alter, he shouldn’t change his style of play in pursuit of this goal.
Bookings are simply a bi-product of being a tough-tackling midfielder, and if Rice starts to go into tackles a bit lighter, he will lose a huge aspect of his game.
Yellow cards aren’t ideal, but Rice hasn’t been sent off once in the Premier League, so he shouldn’t be overthinking his disciplinary record.
