Declan Rice played the full 90 minutes as West Ham knocked Tottenham out of the Carabao Cup.
Declan Rice could not hide his delight on Twitter after he starred in West Ham United’s 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs had been expected to celebrate a comfortable victory over their London rivals, with the Hammers struggling in the Premier League and only above the relegation zone on goal difference.
But Rice and West Ham had other ideas, as they secured a remarkable victory despite going 2-0 down to Spurs in the first half to book their place in the quarter finals of the competition.
Posting on his personal Twitter account after the match, 18-year-old Rice declared that the victory was the “best day of my life” and applauded the West Ham players for their display in what was an enthralling tie.
Spurs had taken a comfortable 2-0 advantage into the break, with Moussa Sissoko and Dele Alli both finding the back of Adrian’s net in the first half.
However, under-fire boss Slaven Bilic’s half-time team talk seemed to spring some life into the Hammers stars. Andre Ayew scored a quickfire double before Angelo Ogbonna scored the all-important winner to send the away fans into raptures.
Bilic now has plenty to ponder when selecting his defence against Crystal Palace on Saturday following Rice’s excellent display, with Ogbonna, Winston Reid, James Collins and Jose Fonte all vying for a place in the first eleven.
