Michail Antonio was superb as West Ham United drew with the Premier League leaders.

Declan Rice has told West Ham’s official website that Michail Antonio was outstanding during the Hammers’ draw with Liverpool on Monday night, and insisted that the winger is unplayable when he is at his best.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are extremely popular with the other Premier League title contenders this morning after Antonio’s equaliser ensured that they played out a 1-1 draw with the Reds that leaves Jurgen Klopp’s men three and five points ahead of Manchester City and Tottenham respectively.

Antonio was superb at both ends of the pitch as the Irons were unlucky to go behind with James Milner in an offside position before the visitors’ goal. He also scored the Hammers’ equaliser with a smart finish.

And Rice suggested that Antonio is as good as anyone when he is on form.

“Mick was outstanding. Some of the stuff he was doing, like bringing down Lukasz’s goal kicks and switching the play,” he told West Ham’s official website.

“When Mick is confident, he is unplayable and you saw that and I’m delighted for him.”

The 28-year-old has responded superbly having had a number of critics before this impressive run. Antonio has now scored three goals and provided three assists in the Premier League this term, and is clearly playing some of his best football since his £7 million move to West Ham (via ESPN).

After such a disappointing run of form, some may have expected West Ham to largely crumble when they went behind to the league leaders so early in Monday’s clash – especially given that they understandably felt aggrieved that Liverpool’s goal stood – but their response was fantastic and will give them a huge boost of confidence heading into the rest of the season.
