Arsenal’s Declan Rice has delivered a poignant message to fans of the Three Lions following Sunday’s defeat to Spain.

After what was a poor start to Euro 2024, England seemed to pull themselves together and progressed through to the final in Berlin, just as they had did at Wembley back in 2021.

Gareth Southgate came under some harsh criticism for his performances as manager in this tournament and the former Middlesbrough manager has confirmed his decision to stand down as manager of England.

The Three Lions were minutes away from taking the Euro 2024 final to extra-time but Mikel Oyarzabal won the game for Spain with a late winner for La Roja.

Rice delivers message to England fans

One midfielder who struggled throughout Euro 2024 was Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who was one of the poor performers for the Three Lions in the final.

It’s easy to forget that it has been a gruelling campaign for the Arsenal midfielder with the Gunners involved in a fascinating title race with Manchester City and making it to the quarter-final of the Champions League.

Writing on his Instagram, the midfielder said: “We win together, we lose together. It hurts so much to come up short again, but I’m so proud to be part of this unbelievable group. Just want to say a massive thank you the whole country for your amazing support throughout, it has been incredible to see.

“Nothing comes close to representing England at a major tournament and I’m certain we are on the right path to be successful again. Time to rest, recover and get ready next season. See you all soon.”

This message was ‘liked’ by Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who missed out on the squad for the tournament in Germany despite impressing on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

England preparing for managerial change

After Southgate’s four major tournaments, it is time for another name to take over the mantle of manager of the Three Lions.

One name who is of interest to the Football Association is understood to be Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe, who has done a superb job for the Magpies.

Howe is understood to be open to the opportunity of taking over as manager of the national team and Newcastle are bracing themselves for a potential approach.
