Nathan Holland has posted a heartfelt message to West Ham the club’s supporters on Instagram after leaving on a permanent move to League One side MK Dons – prompting Declan Rice and Ben Johnson to react.
Holland, 24, leaves West Ham after five years at the club – having joined from Everton in 2017. He only ever managed to play four times for the Hammers at senior level, instead being a regular for the club’s Under-23 side.
Indeed, the two-time England Under-19 international clocked up 55 appearances for the second string during his time at the London Stadium. Alongside that, he also went out on loan to Oxford United.
He spent a total of 18 months at Oxford – playing the second half of 2019-20, before rejoining for the 2021-22 season. Totalling 51 outings, he had a hand in 16 goals, scoring nine and laying on seven assists.
Now, Holland’s contract at West Ham has come to an end and was expected to become a free agent. He will join MK Dons, and the midfielder took to Instagram to send a heartfelt messages to the Hammers.
Holland leaving West Ham: Rice and Johnson react
It is a brilliant move for Holland. A player that showed plenty of quality in the second string for West Ham, and then for Oxford during his time at the Kassam Stadium. But it was not enough to earn a new Hammers deal.
MK Dons finished third in League One last season and reached the play-offs, and will be looking to go one better this time around. Holland might be playing in the Championship in 12 months time. Rice and Johnson commented.
