Declan Rice has admitted to West Ham United’s official website that he wasn’t defending properly at the start of the season.

Rice started for West Ham against Liverpool last night, and his performance only continued to help grow his reputation.

The youngster has been in wonderful form for the Hammers so far this campaign, and is now regarded as one of the best prospects in the Premier League.

And Rice feels that his displays have got better and the season has progressed.

“That was the main thing. At the start of the season, when I was playing holding midfield, I wasn’t vacating my space, I wasn’t defending properly, I was running out of the middle and letting them play,” Rice said.

West Ham drew 1-1 with Liverpool last night, with Michail Antonio scoring their goal.

Liverpool had taken the lead through Sadio Mane, but West Ham showed great character to hit back.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side’s performance was one of their best of the season so far, and helped bring some positivity back to the London Stadium.

West Ham are now up in 12th place in the Premier League table, with their next outing coming against Crystal Palace at the weekend, when Rice will surely start again.
