Celtic visit Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers side at Ibrox next weekend.
There’s no trophies handed out in September, but if there were then James Forrest would probably be Celtic’s Player of the Season.
The 26-year-old has arguably been the Hoops’ most impressive and consistent attacker so far and his brace in the 4-0 win over Ross County should stand him in good stead over keeping his place in the first XI for next week’s trip to Old Firm rivals Rangers.
And if recent comments by left-back Declan John are anything to go by, Forrest should be licking his lips at the prospect of coming up against the Welshman at Ibrox.
The 22-year-old, who joined Rangers on loan from Cardiff City, replaced the injured Lee Wallace at Partick Thistle on Friday night for what was a decent debut.
Should Wallace fail to recover in time then John looks the obvious candidate to start at left-back but, speaking to Rangers TV after Firhill, the youngster admitted that “Defending-wise, I do need to work on stuff.”
It was an honest admission by John – perhaps too honest because it effectively invites Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to base his attack on such an admission.
Rodgers might’ve targeted John in any case, given that it could be only his second Premiership game – and first from the start – but the admission should act as encouragement for Forrest nonetheless and, on this form, the Scotland international could have a field day against him.
