Simon Jordan has stated that Roy Hodgson being touted for the next Newcastle United manager is a ‘decent shout’, as he told talkSPORT (20/10/21 at 11:45 am).
It was suggested previously by Danny Murphy that Newcastle should look towards his former Fulham boss as Steve Bruce’s replacement – the Englishman was sacked on Wednesday.
Even when Bruce was in the dugout, under the club’s new Saudi-led ownership, there was a lot of talk as to who will be the next man in the St James’ Park dugout.
Paulo Fonseca, who recently managed Roma, is seemingly leading the charge, according to the Guardian.
But despite all that talk, ex-Premier League owner Jordan backed the calls for 74-year-old Hodgson, who is 26 years older than the man seemingly at the front of queue.
“It was a decent shout,” said Jordan. “Whether Roy at 74 still has the vitality, I don’t know because it’s a battle. It’s a real battle.”

The issue facing Newcastle is that they have to look towards the short-term, before they can dream big and look down the line.
If they get ahead of themselves then they will only end up in one direction and that’s straight towards England’s second-tier.
Therefore, attracting those big stars, whether it’s managers or players, might have to be put on hold for now and until the club is stabilised.
Fonseca is an attack-minded coach, who enjoyed his best success in the colours of Shakhtar Donetsk, but struggled in the colours of Porto and in Rome.
Whereas Hodgson, left his role at Crystal Palace in the summer, with many thinking it’s the last gig of his managerial career.
