Trevor Sinclair took to Twitter last night to express his frustration at one incident in West Ham’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
The former Hammer – who Transfermarkt say made 196 appearances for the Irons – tweeted about the decision to award the Villans a penalty in the 72nd minute.
Sinclair wrote the following tweet.
Admittedly, Declan Rice did grab a handful of Trezeguet’s shirt, although in our view, he let go almost immediately and there wasn’t enough contact to make the Egyptian hit the deck.
However, soft penalty decisions such as these are becoming the norm in modern day football, and we should come to expect spot-kicks like this being awarded.

Luckily for Rice and David Moyes, Ollie Watkins smashed the resulting spot-kick onto the crossbar and the Hammers managed to steal the three points.
In some ways, justice was done after the ex-Brentford man fluffed his lines.

West Ham rode their luck even more when Watkins actually made amends for his penalty miss with a stoppage-time equaliser, but saw his effort chalked off by VAR for a narrow offside.
The east Londoners now sit fifth on 17 points after an incredible run of form over recent weeks. Moyes’ side are just four points off the top of the Premier League.
