Chris Sutton has slammed Arsenal players for their post-match celebrations after beating West Ham United this evening.
Arsenal recorded a massive 2-1 win away to the Hammers in a result that could well help them qualify for the Champions League.
There was major pressure on the Gunners before kickoff after Tottenham beat Leicester City to move into fourth place.
However, Mikel Arteta’s troops showed a lot of courage and bottle to pick up three points away to the Irons, a difficult stadium to go to.
After the full-time whistle, the Arsenal players looked thrilled with the result and Sutton has criticised them for celebrating like they won the Premier League title.
This isn’t the first time that Arsenal have been accused of over-zealously celebrating after a victory.
Ruben Neves said the same thing after a 1-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this year, while Ashley Young, speaking after a 1-0 win at Villa Park, also offered similar sentiments.
And really, it isn’t a big deal.
The truth is that this was a massive win for the Gunners in the context of their top-four bid and to move back into the Champions League places, with four Premier League games to go, is a substantial development.
Arteta’s side might look a little silly if they finish fifth or lower despite these celebrations, and that’s a genuine worry, but for now Arsenal are looking really strong and acknowledging it is relatively harmless.
