DeAndre Yedlin and Matt Ritchie joined Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin has told The Shields Gazette that Matt Ritchie is a great player to play with.

Both Yedlin and Ritchie joined Championship club Newcastle in the summer transfer window.

While 23-year-old USA international right-back moved to the Magpies from Tottenham Hotspur, 27-year-old winger Ritchie switched to Rafael Benitez’s side from Bournemouth.

Yedlin has revealed that he is enjoying playing with the Scotland international at Newcastle.

“He’s a great player to play with,” Yedlin told The Shields Gazette about Ritchie. “He’s always going to give 100%. Even if you make a mistake, he’s right there behind you.

“If you make a mistake, he’s right there behind you, which is huge. As long as you’ve got their back, and they’ve got yours, I think it’s a hard connection to stop.”

Newcastle got relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Rafael Benitez’s side are doing well in the Championship at the moment and are very much in the running for a top-six finish.

The Magpies are currently third in the standings with 22 points from 11 matches, just three points behind leaders Huddersfield Town.

Newcastle will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Brentford at St. James’ Park in the Championship.

The Magpies will head into the match high on confidence and will fancy their chances of picking up all three points from the encounter.
