Newcastle United progressed to the fourth round of the EFL Cup with a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United full-back DeAndre Yedlin spoke to BBC Radio Newcastle after being handed his full debut in the 2-0 EFL Cup victory over Wolves on Tuesday night.
Goals from Matt Ritchie and Yoan Gouffran in the space of three first-half minutes saw the Magpies claim a comfortable win just days after their Championship defeat to the West Midlands side.
Summer signing Yedlin played the full 90 minutes at right-back and was involved in the build up to the first goal as he kept the ball in to find Ritchie, who played a one-two with Jack Colback before slotting home.

It was the United States international’s first start for the club after coming off the bench to feature in victories over Brighton, Derby County and Queens Park Rangers.
And the 23-year-old was upbeat following his first start at St. James’ Park.

“It was great,” Yedlin told BBC Radio Newcastle.
“It was really good to get out there and play infront of the fans and get the win.
“I was happy to get 90 minutes in, good to get my legs moving and I thought we played well. I thought at times we could have controlled the game a bit better but for the most part we dominated pretty well and I’m happy with the result.”
With Vurnon Anita suspended for three matches, Yedlin is expected to be brought in at right-back, starting this Saturday away to Aston Villa (5.30pm kick-off).
