US international fullback DeAndre Yedlin has taken to Twitter to post a message to both his former club Tottenham Hotspur and his new team Newcastle United.

Yedlin has moved to the Magpies on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee, reported by the Chronicle as being around £5 million.

The 23-year-old spent over a year and a half on the books at White Hart Lane, after moving from MLS giants Seattle Sounders on the back of an impressive World Cup in Brazil. He arrived in January 2015, but would only make one appearance for the North Londoners, a ten minute cameo at the end of a 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa.

Nevertheless, he was on the recent tour to Australia, and Yedlin paid credit to the North Londoners, with his game having noticeably improved since moving to Europe.

Last season he spent the year on loan at the Magpies’ rivals Sunderland, initially struggling to claim a spot in the team but eventually becoming a valuable member of the side who ensured they retained their Premier League status. Yedlin started the Black Cats’ final 13 league games, with the Wearsiders losing just twice.

But now his future is at St James’s Park, where he will replace Dutch international Daryl Janmaat, who joined Watford earlier on Wednesday. And Yedlin also naturally took to Twitter to announce his excitement and eagerness to make an impact under Rafa Benitez.

Yedlin is a big name in the US, where he is seen as one of the country’s most talented young footballers, and the jet-heeled wide man, capable of playing both in defence and midfield, has already won 39 caps.

He will be a valuable commodity for the Magpies from a marketing point of view, and he is likely to be just as valuable in the club’s attempts to return to the Premier League.
