Tottenham Hotspur allowed the American international to move to Newcastle United last summer.

Tottenham Hotspur fans would be forgiven for wondering where it all went wrong for USA international DeAndre Yedlin.
After all, the right-back signed for Spurs off the back of an outstanding World Cup campaign and yet he only ever made one senior appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, shipped off on loan to Sunderland before signing for Newcastle United last summer.
Yedlin has since proved to be an outstanding capture for the Magpies, featuring 28 times in all competitions to date and scoring one goal and providing five assists in the process.
Injury has ruled him out of Newcastle’s last three matches yet there is no doubt that he will be their first-choice right-back if, as expected, they return to the Premier League next season.
At that point the 23-year-old will have the perfect opportunity to prove Tottenham were wrong to discard him so soon, even with Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier competing for the right-back spot.

After all, Yedlin is not just a defender, and his pace would have been a superb option further forward for Tottenham.
With Georges-Kevin N’Koudou failing to live up to expectations so far and Tottenham lacking quality wingers with pace to burn, Yedlin could have been the solution.
Of all Tottenham’s summer sales, his is the one they should look back on with regret.
