Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin struggled to break into Tottenham Hotspur’s team during his time at White Hart Lane.
DeAndre Yedlin has admitted to the Chronicle that he found living in London difficult while with Tottenham Hotspur.
Yedlin’s first move in English football was to Spurs, and it was quite a culture shock for the youngster when he arrived.
The 23-year-old had spent his younger years growing up in Seattle, and the city was not as busy as London.
Yedlin admits that he found it hard to adapt to life in England’s capital, but a loan move to Sunderland last season opened his eyes to life in the North East.
Yedlin enjoyed his time on Wearside, and when Newcastle offered him the chance to move further north on a permanent basis, he jumped at the opportunity.
“(Returning to the North East) was a big factor in my decision. When I first came to London, it was a bit different to what I’d expected,” he said.
“I thought moving to a big city would be a very cool thing for me. But Seattle’s not the biggest city. It’s more like Newcastle. I think I’m more comfortable here. That was a big factor in my decision.”
Yedlin has made an impressive start at Newcastle, after making six appearances to date.
Yedlin has broken into Rafael Benitez’s starting line-up, where he is playing a key role as Newcastle go for promotion.
