DeAndre Yedlin has admitted to MLS Soccer that he is facing a challenge at Newcastle United.
The USA international right-back join Championship club Newcastle from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.
According to The Daily Mail, the Magpies had to pay Spurs a transfer fee of £5 million in order to secure the services of the 23-year-old, who can also operate as a wide midfielder.
The American defender has suggested that he is enjoying life at St. James’ Park under manager Rafael Benitez.
Yedlin, though, has admitted that he is facing the challenge of playing in each and every game due to the competition for places.
“It’s been great,” the defender told MLS Soccer. “It’s obviously a bit of a different experience going to the Championship, but I’m in a team that’s very, very capable of going back up [to the Premier League], so that was a big part of my decision.
“I’m working with a great manager [Rafael Benitez] and great players, so it’s not like it’s easy for me to get into the lineup and play every game.
“So it’s a challenge for me, so that’s good as well. That’s what I need at this point in my career.”

Yedlin did quite well during his loan spell at Sunderland last season, helping the Black Cats retain their Premier League status for the 2016-17 campaign.
The USA right-back did not make a huge impact at Tottenham, but he seems to be enjoying himself at Newcastle.
Newcastle manager Benitez is a brilliant tactician, and working with the Spaniard is only going to help improve the American’s game.
