Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is likely to be wanting additions in the January transfer window.

Dean Smith should make signing a centre-back at Aston Villa his main priority in the January transfer window.
Steve Bruce has left a strong squad at Villa, but if there is one position of weakness, it is in defence.
Bruce was happy to use Mile Jedinak out of position at centre-back on occasion, but Smith should not settle for that.
Jedinak rarely looked truly comfortable in the heart of Villa’s defence, and with Smith likely to demand a more possession-based style, he needs upgrading.
Smith should, therefore, make adding a centre-back a top priority his top priority.

Villa need to find a partner for James Chester, who they can rely on for the years ahead.
Axel Tuanzebe may show some promise, but he is only on loan and has a poor track record of staying fit.
And if Villa are to go up this season, tightening up at the back should by Smith’s first priority at Villa Park.
