Aston Villa have just announced a deal for Bjorn Engels.
Aston Villa have just wrapped up their eighth signing of the summer.
The newly-promoted Premier League club has announced the capture of Bjorn Engels, who joins the Villans from Ligue 1 side Reims.
According to BBC Sport, Engels has set Aston Villa back around £7 million.
It is by no means the most expensive transfer that Dean Smith has made this summer, but it is a savvy one after the Villa manager admitted to the club’s official website that he’s been watching him for a year-and-a-half.
He said: “Bjorn is a player that I’ve been watching for the past 18 months. We’re very happy to have secured his services and look forward to working with him.”
Engels, who stands at 6’4, is the fourth central defender that Smith has recruited for the West Midlands side in recent weeks.
Aston Villa clearly are not messing around this summer. They’re going about their business very well and it seems like they have every intention of staying in the Premier League for many years to come – and it’s a wise strategy.
At 28, Jota is the oldest player that Smith has signed for Aston Villa this summer and it’s clear that the former Brentford boss is building a project. He isn’t building to only survive relegation.
