Dean Smith has told Aston Villa’s official Youtube channel that he plans to sit down with Jesus Garcia Pitarch and Christian Purslow in the near future to discuss appointing a goalkeeping coach.

Sam Meek is currently in temporary charge of Villa’s goalkeepers, but Smith is eager to find a more permanent solution.

And Smith has suggested that his first priority will be to bring in a new coach, when he meets with Pitarch and Purslow.

“We have Sam Meek helping us at the moment, but the goalkeeping coach is another area we need to strengthen,” Smith said.

“I’ll be sitting down with Suso and Christian and trying to organise that as quickly as possible.”

Brentford Manager Dean Smith looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Brentford and Birmingham City at Griffin Park on October 2, 2018 in Brentford, England.

Smith won his first game in charge of Villa at the weekend, as his side beat Swansea City.

The claret and blues picked up a 1-0 victory, with Tammy Abraham scoring the only goal during the contest.

Villa have now moved up to 13th place in the Championship table, with optimism rising around Villa Park.

Smith’s side are next in action later this evening, when they take on Norwich City at Carrow Road.
