Aston Villa were made to work hard for the three points against Blackburn Rovers.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Villa Park yesterday, but stopped short of heaping too much praise on his players, highlighting what disappointed him about their performance, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
The Villans are currently in the midst of a superb run of form that has seen them win their last five Championship games, and they now sit in fifth place in the table, having taken 60 points from their first 39 games.
Dean Smith took over as manager of Aston Villa back in October 2018, and although it took some time to implement his ideas and philosophies, things are now looking really rosey at Villa Park.
And Villa really were in imperious form in the first-half against Rovers, although Smith told reporters how he wasn’t entirely satisfied with their second half display, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:

“We should have had a three or four goal lead by half-time. When we got the second goal, I think we felt that it was job done and we got a little bit loose on the ball. We never passed it well enough in the last 20 minutes, that’s for sure.”
Next up for Villa is a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, and if they played anything like they did in the first-half against Blackburn, they will have every chance of leaving Hillsborough with maximum points.
