Dean Smith has told Aston Villa’s official website that his side’s wastefulness with their final ball is what stopped them beating Norwich City.

Villa slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Norwich at Carrow Road last night, despite having the lead in the contest.

The Villans were undone through two goals from Jordan Rhodes.

And Smith felt that had Villa’s final pass had been more accurate they may have got the three points.

He said: “It was a good period for us [after the equaliser]. We passed the ball with purpose and got into some good areas.

“Our final run and final ball at times is probably what ensured we didn’t get the win.”

Villa’s defeat to Norwich highlights the size of the task Smith has in hand.

Steve Bruce’s side are yet to really click into gear this season, with results fairly disappointing.

Villa currently sit in 16th place in the Championship table, which is well below expectations.

Smith’s side are next in action on Friday evening, when they take on Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
