Aston Villa will be hoping to earn promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and shared how he has noticed just how competitive his players are during training sessions recently.

The Villans currently sit in sixth spot in the Championship table, having won their last four league games, but they are a distant 17 points adrift of second placed Sheffield United.

The west Midlands outfit seem to be hitting form at just the right time, and many fans and pundits are tipping them to earn promotion back to the Premier League after a three year hiatus from the top flight.

And Smith told the club’s official website how there is still a lot more to come from his Aston Villa players between now and the end of the season, having observed them during training sessions recently:

“There’s definitely more to come. You can see that in training. I see a competitiveness. Now in matches there’s players reaching the top of the ability and others getting close. I want to keep pushing the boundaries of how good they can be.”

Next up for Aston Villa is a home game against Blackburn Rovers next Saturday, and Smith’s men will be extremely confident of making it five consecutive wins.

Automatic promotion might just be a step too far for Villa this term, but they will be the side that every other club wants to avoid in the play-offs, that’s for sure.
