Aston Villa progressed through to the play-off final against West Bromwich Albion last night.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith spoke to reporters after his side progressed through to the play-off final last night, and shared something he told his players to do during the penalty shootout against West Brom, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Villans finished their campaign in fine style, taking 31 points from their final 12 Championship games, and many are tipping them to gain promotion via the play-offs.
Smith’s side were far from their best last night, however, losing the game 1-0 against the Baggies.
The match eventually went to penalties, and Aston Villa prevailed, with Jed Steer saving two of Albion’s spot-kicks.
And Smith told reporters how he ordered his players to implement a specific plan during the penalty shootout at the Hawthorns last night, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“I was comfortable and relaxed. I’m confident in the players. Every time we took a penalty, Jed passed the ball to our players. It was little details and psychological advantages that we felt could help us.”
Aston Villa will play the winner of tonight’s clash between Leeds United and Derby County at Wembley next week, and the way things have gone over the past few months, Smith’s side might just believe that this year is their time.
