Aston Villa took on Sheffield United on Friday night.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has confirmed to the Birmingham Mail that midfielder Tom Carroll missed Friday’s clash with Sheffield United through injury.
Villa played out a bonkers game at Villa Park on Friday night, as Sheffield United were 3-0 up with around 10 minutes left on the clock thanks to a Billy Sharp hat-trick.
However, Villa roared back with goals from Tyrone Mings and Tammy Abraham, before Andre Green popped up with a dramatic late leveller for Villa.
Fans were left bewildered as Villa staged a stunning fightback, but one player who wasn’t able to play a part in the game was midfielder Carroll.
A deadline day loan signing from Swansea City just before the January transfer window slammed shut, Carroll made his Villa debut as a substitute at Reading last week.
However, he wasn’t in the squad at all on Friday, with some fans wondering just why Smith’s most recent Villa signing wasn’t involved.
Smith has now confirmed to the Birmingham Mail that Carroll actually missed out through an injury, and will be out for around 10 days.
“He got a slight strain in training the other day so he’s missed the last few days, he’ll probably be back in 10 days or so,” said Smith.
It’s frustrating for Villa to have brought in a new face to bolster their midfield and then immediately lose them, whilst Carroll – who may be playing for a permanent deal at Villa Park – will also be annoyed himself at his unfortunate injury.
