Aston Villa are inching ever closer to gaining promotion back to the Premier League.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith offered high words of praise for the club’s travelling support last night, labelling them as ‘tremendous’, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Villans were not at their best last night against West Brom, but they just about did enough to progress through to the play-off final, beating the Baggies on penalties.
Smith’s Aston Villa side have been mightily impressive over the past few months, and it would be hard to argue that they do not deserve to gain promotion this season.
Their recent run has seen them win 11 of their last 14 games, but none of that would have been possible without their loyal fanbase.
Smith addressed the media last night, and made sure that he thanked the Aston Villa faithful for their support, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“They were tremendous. I’ve been one of them in that end and really enjoyed it. I also really enjoyed my time with them tonight. It meant more tonight as a Play-Off semi-final and also a local rivalry. We’ve given them something to be pleased about.”
Leeds United take on Derby County at Elland Road tonight, and the Aston Villa players and fans will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of the match.
Smith’s side will not have been happy with their performance last night, but the manner in which they eventually ended up winning will surely give them a huge boost ahead of the play-off final.
