Aston Villa were extremely poor defensively against Nottingham Forest last night.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith spoke to reporters after his side’s incredible 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest last night, and shared how his team must improve defensively if they are to achieve success this season, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Villans currently sit in eighth spot in the Championship table, having taken 28 points from their opening 19 league outings, and they are just three points adrift of the pay-off spots.
If they are to go up this season, however, their defending quite simply must improve.
The 30 goals conceded by Aston Villa is the worst tally from all of the teams inside the top 15 of the league, and is the joint fifth worst in the entire division.
Smith addressed the media after his side’s enthralling draw with Forest, and insisted that they will not concede five goals in a single match again, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“I can tell you there’s some very disappointed players in the dressing room. They feel it’s a game they could and should have won. But we also know they can’t concede five goals. We won’t again. We’ll take the positives, but have to tighten up. We want to get better defensively, of course.”
Villa face an extremely busy schedule over the course of the next month, with seven games to come before January 2nd, and Smith will be targeting those matches as a real opportunity to string together some wins that would see them force their way inside the play-off places.
