Aston Villa boss Dean Smith secured the signing of Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings on transfer deadline day.
Dean Smith has confirmed that Aston Villa are still looking ‘to bring others in’ to the club after they signed Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings on deadline day.
Villa confirmed on their official website that the versatile defender has joined the Championship outfit for the rest of the season as he will give the Midlands outfit a much-needed boost in the defensive department.
Nonetheless, with the transfer window set to slam shut at 11 pm on Thursday evening, Smith offered some exciting news for Villa supporters as he confirmed that the club will be working to the last minute to try and sort out any more deals.
“It’s been very busy [behind the scenes],” Smith told AVTV. “We are looking to still bring others in and Suso and Christian are well at work at that.
“Possibly [deals could go to the 11 pm deadline], I think that normally how it works, doesn’t it?! There will be chats going on and there will be paperwork being done and normally at 11 pm, there is a big rush.”
Sky Sports previously reported that Villa were interested in midfield duo Isaac Hayden and Nathaniel Chalobah from Newcastle and Watford, respectively.
It remains to be seen whether any of those two players make the switch to the Midlands outfit, but the report did state that Smith is looking for midfield options and reinforcements in his team.
Therefore, could he potentially have hinted that the promotion-chasing side are looking at midfield options following the signing of Mings from Bournemouth.
At this moment in time, Villa are sitting four points outside of the playoff places and will travel to relegation-threatened Reading at the weekend.
Mings, who can operate at centre-back and at left-back, will be hoping to take to the field at the Madjeski Stadium and help his new team secure some much-needed points.
