Dean Smith has issued some brutally honest news on Tammy Abraham’s future at Aston Villa amid reported interest from rivals Wolves.

The Telegraph claimed that Wolves are interested in signing the 21-year-old Chelsea player, who is on a season-long loan at Villa Park.

It is said that Abraham’s parent club have until January 14 to make a decision on his future as the next 10 days will make interesting viewing for Midlands supporters.

Smith confirmed that he ‘doesn’t think it would be a great decision’ for Abraham to leave for a Premier League club as he seemed to have a sly dig at Villa’s rivals Wolves, who are interested in his signature.

“He is on loan to us and there is a recall as everyone is aware of,” Smith told Sky Sports News on 04/01/2019 at 2:10 pm. “What I am led to believe is that it’s the lads choice if he wants to stay or not. I don’t think Chelsea are going to push him either way.

“I personally, and I have told Tammy the same, that I don’t think it would be a great decision for him. I think he is in a win-win here.

“But there is only one person who can make that decision and that would be Tammy. I have said to him ‘go with what your gut feeling is’. If it’s to stay at Villa and become a legend, which he can do because he could be the one who takes us into the Premier League this season.

“He’s got 40 odd thousand fans signing his name at the moment. That can only be a good feeling for a young lad.”

Abraham moved to Villa Park towards the back end of August, with striker Jonathan Kodjia leading the line under then-manager Steve Bruce prior to his arrival.

But from the get-go, Abraham has cemented his own place in Villa’s starting XI, netting 16 goals in his 20 matches, for Bruce and now the more attack-minded Smith.

Villa are currently sitting outside of the Championship playoffs as they aim to make a return to the promised land for the third time of asking.

Abraham will be preparing for his side’s third round FA Cup clash at home to Championship rivals on Saturday afternoon – a team that Villa have already beaten on two occasions this term.
