The Brentford boss has been tipped as a possible successor to Roberto Di Matteo.
Brentford boss Dean Smith has responded to speculation linking him with the Aston Villa manager’s job, reports Get West London.
Earlier this week, the Telegraph claimed that current incumbent Roberto Di Matteo had just two games to avoid the sack, the first of which saw his side relinquish another one-goal lead late on.
Should Villa fail to beat Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday, they will have won just one of their opening 11 Championship fixtures, which could prompt owner Tony Xia to act.
Smith, meanwhile, has impressed since joining the Bees from Villa’s local rivals Walsall in November 2015, leading them to fifth in the standings.
And the boyhood Villa fan has inevitably found himself linked with Di Matteo’s job should the Italian be relieved of his duties.
However, when asked about the speculation, Smith is quoted as saying by Get West London: “Aston Villa have got a manager in charge, I have no more to say.
“I don’t really talk about other clubs when there are managers in charge. I was a boyhood Villa fan. Now my job is solely on Brentford Football Club and I’m thoroughly enjoying that.”
Smith, who was born in West Bromwich, spent the bulk of his playing career at Leyton Orient, but also had spells at Walsall, Hereford United, Sheffield Wednesday and Port Vale, before heading into management.
