Dean Smith is set to immediately recall Todd Cantwell to the Norwich City first-team squad in a potential blow to Aston Villa.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim Smith is already planning changes after being named Norwich’s new manager.
One of the first things Smith wants to do is bring Cantwell back into the fold after a tumultuous season to date.
Cantwell was curiously ditched to the Under-23’s by previous Norwich boss Daniel Farke and hasn’t played in the Premier League since September 18th.
With just five league appearances this season, Cantwell has not only lost the spotlight but has faded way back into the shadows at Carrow Road.
Smith knows he needs creativity if Norwich are to stay up through, and Cantwell is now in line to return to the Norwich setup.
What’s interesting is that Aston Villa wanted to sign Cantwell in August, when Smith was their manager.
Villa continued their chase of Cantwell late into the window and may still fancy luring the 23-year-old to Villa Park given his huge potential.
Yet with Smith now in charge and seemingly a fan of Cantwell, Villa’s lingering hopes of a move may be dwindling even more.
