Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has suggested that he needs more defenders.

New Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has surely already given a clue away over his first signing at Villa Park will be.
Smith has been impressed by the squad that Steve Bruce has left him at the Midlands club.
However, in his first interview with the club’s official website, Smith suggested that the squad was unbalanced.
“It’s a fantastic squad, full of quality,” he said. “We probably look a bit unbalanced at the back at the moment, if we’re all honest.
“There’s only a couple of centre-backs at the football club. But, overall, I’m very happy with it.”
Smith’s suggestion that he doesn’t have enough centre-back surely highlights where he will be focusing in January.

Villa are said to have funds to spend in the next transfer window, and bringing in a defender could be crucial.
The claret and blues already have one of the best attacks in the Championship, but they have been caught out at the back this campaign.
Smith’s first game in charge of Villa comes at the weekend, when his new side take on Swansea City.
